Yaki Sugi: Day 03

Thanks so much to Sean Higgins, Sara Pajunen and John Moore for helping us with this Yaki Sugi burn session.  We completed all of the 12' length boards! Sean made this time-lapse video of our process:

Because the knots in the Cedar planks do not burn as quickly as the clear wood, we follow the global char with a local burn.  This treatment blackens the knots to the same level as the rest of the boards.  Tyler and Sean have perfected the technique.

Turns out when the boards are burned on both sides, they do not warp, makes sense.
